This holiday season, we're raising funds to support my friend Jeff Cannonball and his family, after Jeff's ALS diagnosis. Every winter for the past 18 years, I have baked boxes full of cookies in exchange for charitable donations - this year, we're doing it for Jeff.
I met Jeff about 10 years ago, when we happened to work at a ridiculous job together. We got to know each other on walks out to the warehouse to do inventory counts, chatting along the way. He was such a kind and interesting guy - so easy to get along with, extremely dryly funny, and super smart, though he'd never take credit for it.
Jeff is now a husband to Sam, a father to their 2 year old son Milo, "a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, an emergency dispatcher/first responder, a wrestler, a musician, a soda enthusiast and many other things, from all walks of life." [Jeff's brother wrote this and it sums up how he's built up an amazing community of people around him.]
This year, at 38 years old, he was diagnosed with ALS and the disease is progressing rapidly. ALS is a terminal disease, with high costs related to treatment and making their home accessible, and it would be wonderful to allow Jeff and his family to enjoy the time they spend together, instead of feeling the financial pressure.
You can support my friends by:
- Making a donation of any amount, just because.
- Donating and choosing a cookie box as your 'perk' - this is limited to 25 boxes total, with a suggested donation of $75 (minimum of $60), and I encourage you to donate more if you're able. There will be a $5 shipping cost-share attached to these if you choose to have it shipped. Shipping is typically $7-10 within the US but I'm happy to absorb part of the cost. Local pickup in Somerset County, NJ is also available!
Cookie boxes of past years:

Thank you for your generosity, and please share on if you're able to. Happy Holidays!
Note: This is separate from their GoFundMe as I needed to have a place to organize cookie box addresses/shipping info but Jeff and Sam are aware of this fundraising effort and all of the proceeds will go to them.

-
What will I get if I donate money?
- If you choose 'cookie box' as a reward and donate at least the minimum amount + shipping, you'll get a box of ~25 delicious cookies shipped to you (within the lower 48 US). You can choose to donate more if you wish. If you donate less than this, or if the cookie boxes have sold out, the donation will go to Jeff and Sam but you will not receive anything separately besides our gratitude for your generosity.
-
What portion of the donations will go to Jeff and his family?
- The entire proceeds with the exception of the $5 shipping fee per box will go to Jeff, Sam, and Milo. There are platform processing fees/extra fees that Fundrazr charges -- if you choose to cover these fees when asked, that would be awesome. If you choose not to or aren't able to, I will pay them so the maximum amount of money goes to their family.
-
Do you offer gluten-free or allergen-free cookies?
- I wish I could, and I do enjoy allergen-friendly baking, but with this particular endeavor I cannot safely avoid cross-contamination. The cookies for 2025 include: gluten, dairy, eggs, tree nuts (macadamia), peanuts, chocolate, and more. If you have questions about specifics, please feel free to contact me on Instagram (@rachael.faith).
-
When will the cookie boxes arrive?
- The current timeline is:
- Dec 12-15: Baking
- Dec 15-16: Packing
- Dec 16-17: Shipping, usually via UPS or USPS
- Cookies typically arrive between Dec 19-24, typically before Christmas though I can't promise arrival dates. The further you are from NJ, could be a few more days. They stay fresh and tasty for quite a long time.
- The current timeline is:
-
Where do you do the baking?
- Out of my home in New Jersey! It's a 4 to 5 day baking spree where I typically bake, pack, and ship 1,000+ cookies over that time.
-
How long have you been doing this?
- I've been doing what I call "Cookie Madness" for a long time - this will be my 19th year. For many years, all of the boxes went to friends and family. About 5 years ago I had the idea to trade cookie boxes in exchange for charitable donations, and have been doing it every year since.
