Hi, we’re Elle and Briony – a couple, a musical duo, and lifelong travellers. You might know us as Salt and Steel!
For years, we’ve been living simply and pouring our hearts (and nearly every dollar we earn) into creating and sharing music across Australia.
If you’ve ever been to one of our shows, you know we live for the
connection between music, nature and
people. We've spent the last few years travelling
Australia, sharing our music, and living simply so we can give
everything we have to our craft.
We’ve been working towards our debut album,
which we are very passionate about. But, recently we hit a major
roadblock – our van, which is also our home, our studio, and our
lifeline to the road broke down beyond repair.
That van wasn’t just a vehicle – it’s our home, our studio, and
the thing that gets us to gigs and festivals across the country — it
was how we made our music possible.
After a lot of thinking (and encouragement from some of you!),
we’ve decided to launch this fundraiser to help us get a safe,
reliable van that we can live in and tour from — so we can
keep doing what we love, and keep bringing
that energy to every stage we land on.
The money from this fundraiser won’t pay for a whole new
vehicle, we couldn’t bare to ask for that much. But, it will
contribute greatly for us to buy a new van, make it roadworthy and fit
it out. We need something that is safe, reliable and
won’t have us gritting our teeth wondering if we’re going to make it
to the next show.
We will admit, it does feel slightly uncomfortable to be asking this.
When we are on stage we feel the power of music and
the exchange between the audience. We our fuelled by each other. We
feel like this fundraiser will be the same. This will help
power us up and get us making music that we love.
The funds will go toward:
- Purchasing a new (used) van
- Making it roadworthy and reliable
- Fitting it out so we can live safely and comfortably on the road
We’re also offering some fun perks for supporters — from private house concerts to limited edition merch and shout outs. Think of it as a way for us to give something back, and to stay connected with those of you who make this journey possible.
The truth is, we wouldn’t be here without the love and support of the people around us. This last month has reminded us how much that means — and how strong we can be when we lean into community.
