Yasini “Yacn” Biggo of Tanzania is a recent graduate from The University of Dar Es Salaam. While he successfully completed four years of university against all odds (he comes from a village where people earn only $1USD a day), he now needs to attend one final post-graduate year at The Law School of Tanzania.
He has been out of school for almost a year working towards his tuition and has saved up $900 through his internship but still needs $1,150 more to attend the program which costs just over $2000. If he misses the November tuition deadline, he will have to wait until 2019 or beyond to try again. In Tanzania the sooner he completes this final program the more likely he will pass his bar exam and get a job as a lawyer.
Who are we?
I'm Kristen Palana, a university
professor working in Myanmar and the founder of Aura's
House, a grassroots website that existed long before Kickstarter,
Gofundme, Fundrazr, etc. Since 2004, we have raised over $125,000 (in
our so-called spare time) for health, education, housing, and income
generation projects for needy families in developing countries.
Together I am working with Aura's House partner, Heather LaBonte and my former
colleague at The American University of Rome, Kathy Bemis to complete
fundraising for Yacn's education. Read more about how Heather and Yasini

COM408 Media, Art, and Social Activism class raised funds for Yasini's 3rd year of university in 2015
[*All Paypal donations are handled by Frieda LaBonte, Heather's
mom in the US who wires the funds to Yacn's school directly as she has
done consistently over the past four years for his university tuition.
Offline and credit card payments without Paypal are also accepted.]
Who is Yacn?
A forward and innovative thinker,
Yacn hopes to become a successful lawyer who can help the women and
children of Tanzania, and those in his village who are isolated in
society. His time at the university has been funded by generous crowdfunding via
Aura's House that has allowed him to continue his
education without taking loans from his already impoverished village.
Yacn’s original goal to get a higher education was to provide
for his family. He is the only son of five children and feels
responsible for providing for his ailing mother and four sisters. His
parents rely on shaky small business ventures, and Yacn wanted to give
them a more comfortable life. It was after he left his village, when
he realized that he could also help his community. He hopes to help
those who are denied their rights of owning property, inheritance,
work and live in liberty but instead live in extreme poverty.
Our mission is to help fund his education. With the drive and
ambition he has shown thus far, he will achieve amazing things in his
community. He has come so far, and with your help we can assure he
finishes what we all started together.
What we need and what you get:
We aim to raise a total of $1150 to fund Yacn's final post graduate
year of Law School.
