My name is Amanda Bostik and I am the mother of a little girl named Gemma. In 2010 Gemma was born with a rare Neuromuscular disorder and spent 307 days in hospital.  Gemma has a tracheostomy, ventilator and wheelchair.  After coming home and looking forward to visiting our local parks we unfortunately realized how inaccessible they are.

I decided at that time, almost 4 years ago, that something needed to be done.  I met with the city of Richmond to advocate for the building of an accessible playground and in 2013 a playground project came available that would include accessible elements. There was a very minimal budget so I spent a year fundraising in order to help make the project a success.

We are so close to being finished thanks to the help of our community and friends.

I am trying to wrap up the project by raising $1500 towards the purchase of another small piece of equipment to add to the playground.  It is being built in October so the funds are needed ASAP.

This project, which will include smooth surfacing an accessible play equipment, is a dream come true so that children like my daughter Gemma will no longer sit on the sidelines and shed tears from not being included.  Anyone of any age and ability will soon have a chance to participate together in play.

Thank you for helping me make that possible!
