The Winds in the Sails
In short, this began as a Halfway to Halloween costume party. It
became a fundraiser as I witnessed the ordeals friends went through
with amputations and got to thinking of how I could help, and a fun
way to do it!
Financially speaking, I realized there is more to it than
medical insurance coverage fine print or Obama Care...
You are out of work resulting in loss of income, but the
rent/mortgage/utilities/insurance/etc bills do not wait, they just
pile up with disconnection notices. Making ends meet may be nothing
new, but Pharmaceuticals need to be paid for at the counter. Physical
Therapy becomes a new expense. Household items of accommodation (grab
rails, ramps, shower chairs, etc) need to be purchased and installed
while your world has already stopped and turned upside down...
Your share of costs for prosthetic appliances becomes inevitable.
Perhaps we can generate some money, connections, and support
through "Pirates for Prosthetics" to help in those
transitional times.
We put together a Pub Crawl, and sold T-shirts, Can Coozies,
and held 50/50 cash raffles... Our first round had 55 participants and
we amassed a booty of $1100 in proceeds with a boat load of fun doing it!
I'm just a guy who likes a good Pirate Costume Party, and
hosting a pub crawl in St. Paul to raise money to help a family going
through the transitional times after amputations.
