Lesia and Petro are expecting their second baby in October of this year. A routine ultrasound scan during the 20th week of pregnancy showed congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a condition that occurs when a hole in the diaphragm muscle — the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen — fails to close during prenatal development, and the contents from the abdomen (stomach, intestines and/or liver) migrate into the chest through this hole. Most newborns with CDH die during delivery or shortly after birth.

This unborn baby needs an emergency surgical procedure called laparoscopy within the next three weeks to save her life. Unfortunately, this cannot be done in Ukraine. Lesia and Petro found a hospital in Belgium that has agreed to do the surgery.

Ми, Леся Драгула та Петро Слободян очікуємо на народження другої дитини в жовтні, але на 20 тижні вагітності за допомогою УЗД обстеження було встановлено діагноз – діафрагмальна грижа плоду (шлунок знаходиться у грудній порожнині та утруднює розвиток серця і легенів). Ця вада розвитку, як правило, не сумісна з життям, більшість дітей помирають під час пологів або невдовзі після них.

За порятунок дитини може взятися клініка у Бельгії.
