Cyâle means gathering place. It is the Secwepemc word for, “The Hollow in the Hillside Where People Gather”, such as the one on Flo’s land. Flo said that people would come for giveaways to this place since time immemorial. She explains that the farm is called Cyale to continue this legacy and tradition: to grow food for her community, for her nation, and for other nations fighting for their lands.
For the Secwepemc people, a huge part of sovereignty (independence & nation authority) is controlling their food supply. When they control their food supply, they have autonomy. They see this as decolonization ( to free from colonial/Canadian power) .
Wolverine and Flo started the farm in the 1970s to continue the fight as warriers in the movement. They had been running it together till he passed away last year.
The foods grown at Cyale are heirloom varieties of fruits and vegetables. Seeds are saved from each harvest to be used in the next years planting as well as to be shared with other food sovereignty projects. For Flo, divesting from corporations, like Monsanto, selling GMO seeds, including terminator seeds, is part of decolonization. Flo’s work is not only providing nourishment for Indigenous Land Defenders today, she is also safeguarding food sovereignty for future generations.
All farm labour comes from Flo, warriors and family in the community with help from supporters. The farm is fairly self-sufficient and doesn’t need a huge amount of money to continue to operate: they have the land, water, food and shelter. They need support with funds to replace worn out tractor tires that cost a total of $3800. Also, there is hope to purchase the supplies needed for a greenhouse for $700. We need to raise $3800, yet hope to riase the money for both, the tires and greenhouse building supplies, for a total of $4500.
This funding is very much needed because grassroots fundraising puts a strain on Secwepemc community (a community wealthy in land, care for one another, and family, but not in money), so getting this funding from an outside source would be a huge support.
Your donation today will assist in the continuation of their work, as part of the critical infrastructure on the farm. Though this may not seem like a lot of money, it is when the farm operates regularly on very little money and therefore has little money coming in. These funds from you is crucial in advancing the fight against colonization through Cyâle, an Indigenous Food Sovereignty Farm.

A pair of pearled sea glass earrings, made by Teal Pansy Jewelry. Like all sea glass, they are a beautiful opaque pearled white colour. Labyrinths are considered "an archetype in the human mind" and apparently have no single place of origin. They have been found in "all corners of earth" in slightly different forms. Labyrinths are ancient symbols and tools often used for walking meditation. The facilitator first used labyrinths as a way of healing. Facilitator, Kaleb, is able to guide this experience in and around the Vancouver area. Kaleb will offer a 3 hours of labyrinth facilitation and/or building that can be set up with a simple labyrinth or meet you (or you and your small group) at a pre-made outdoor labyrinth. Costs for specific materials, indoor space rentals, or transportation outside Vancouver are not included. Made with Sweetgrass freshly harvested from our organic herb garden. We soak it in organic, cold pressed sunflower oil to release the healing and aromatic compunds of sweetgrass into the oil. To this we add Calendula infused oil, aloe juice, and Sweetgrass water. Our Sweetgrass Water is distilled at home using our own Sweetgrass and Alembic Copper distiller. This is an excellent lotion for those who work hard and/or work outside in the elements and get dry, cracked skin as a result. It is also an excellent lotion for sunburn!

This abalone shell necklace is a unique piece in that the shells were gathered by a friend of mine and then gifted to me. They come from his home, Tsimshian territory. I went through a process of cleaning and preserving these shells, and along the way made a tutorial so others can learn this art too. You can see on my Instagram at Instagram.com/tealpansyjewelry These are the most beautiful pieces of abalone I have ever seen. They are very lustrous, and even the outsides of the shells are a beautiful red colour. The shell itself is 1 1/4" tall and 2/3" wide. The base of the salve is an olive oil infusion with cotton wood, calendula and comfery with beeswax. Harvested in Lekwungen territory. It is a skin healing salve good for cuts, scrapes, bug bites and other skin irritations or infection. Make sure the cut is cleaned before use and apply as needed.

These ethical feather earrings are made using the naturally shed feathers primarily of domestic birds (mostly parrots under the guardianship of friends of the artist). These particular earrings incorporate feathers from a budgie, and from Topaz, a blue fronted Amazon parrot.
