What Happened?

On Friday May 9th my house and studio were ravaged by a huge fire. There were no human casualties but we did lose both of our studio cats, Bartleby & Jinx, to smoke inhalation. While most of the damage was contained to the kitchen, all of my studio lights, equipment, props, and so on were badly damaged by smoke and water. My main camera rig and my most oft-used lens (18-200mm) were melted by the intense heat. Now, I have a backup camera (and offers from others to let me borrow cameras if needed) but my old backup rig is over 1 million shutter actuations and on it's last legs, plus most of my lenses are covered in thick black soot. Although we are insured, it will take MONTHS to get reimbursement, and I cannot in good conscience borrow anyone's rig that long. As photography is my livelihood (and I need to replace a ton of things like toiletries and food in the meantime) I have to get a working professional camera and lens together right away.

Wait, who are you?

My name is Richard Rasner, also known as “Unique Nudes.” My work hangs in museums and art galleries worldwide, and I am also an avid reinactor and theme character working at Renaissance Faires and such around Southern California. You may know me as Damashi or Flynn, in that case.

Why $2,500?

I know the goal I have set here may seem high, but the value of what I lost far exceeds this. I am looking to get a single camera body and lens, to get me through until the insurance pays up. This will allow me to continue working and making money in the meantime. If you have ever been a fan of my work, I could really use your help now.

Can't I just buy a print or one of your books?

Yes, and every little bit counts, but if you buy a $30 print my profit is only about $4 after everybody else gets their share. If you donate directly I get all of it (minus PayPal and other fees, but still a lot more.)

What's in it for me?

This isn't Kickstarter, but I want to give back too. So anyone who donates $50 or more gets themselves and/or their business mentioned on UniqueNudes.com. $100 or more and you will get a signed print of your choice once the insurance money kicks in (a $500 value!). If you donate $300 or more you get a free photo session for whatever you want. Or I'll shoot your event. Whichever. Headshots, boudoir, your kid's birthday... I'm yours for the day. Any donation above $500 and you can name pretty much anything you want from me.

I'm poor.

I know, we are all struggling in these times. But if you can help, please do. If you cannot donate, please at least signal boost this to those who can. Support an artist in his time of need; help make the world a slightly more beautiful place.
