In June 2014, I will be travelling to Teshie in Ghana for two weeks with Dream Africa Care Foundation to volunteer in a teaching project. A lot of schools there are unfortunately over-crowded and understaffed with limited resources therefore I really hope to help make a difference to these childrens’ lives and to put smiles back on their faces. My work there will involve helping to teach children in the local community how to read and write as well as being involved in creative projects and non-classroom based activities which help to create a stimulating learning environment. Whilst over there, I will also be providing love and care to children in an orphanage and helping them to learn life-skills which unfortunately their parents were not able to teach them.

Unfortunately, the trip doesn’t come without its costs and overall is likely to cost me around £1500 to cover flights, immunisations, visa, insurance, food etc. Knowing how much it means to underprivileged children to receive such compassion and dedication from volunteers like myself, I am really keen to make this trip happen! Therefore, over the next few months I will be raising funds towards my trip by carrying out cake sales, doing a sponsored 10km run in my village etc and I will also contribute to the trip with money which I have earned from my part-time job.

It really is an amazing opportunity to help build a better future for those children who are sadly less fortunate in Ghana, therefore any support towards my fundraising, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated. I will also be donating half of the money which I raise to Dream Africa Care Foundation to enable them to provide the children with more clothing and school supplies or whatever it is that is required to improve their lives.
