Barbara McKelvey hasn't added a story.
Dear Friends, I know you know how uncomfortable it is to ask for donations. This will be my first and only time. Some of you have asked to help and we thank you.
This is Henry’s story.
On August 28, 2013, this little pup of only five pounds was found by Animal Control laying in the street after being hit by a car. Most likely he was dumped by a bad commercial kennel. After he was dumped, he was hit and left to die. When he arrived at Animal Care and Control he was lethargic with painful hips and caudal thorax. After placing a catheter, he had a seizure. He was sedated for radiographs and no seizures seem to occur unless handled – they suspected head trauma. No broken bones were found however the breaks would have been difficult to find since he was so tiny. He was transferred to a hospital where he was monitored and given medication until September 16, 2013. All seemed to be stable.
We adopted Henry from the rescue group and he came to live with us on September 18, 2013. He seemed to be doing very well until October 1, 2013 – only 13 days after joining our family. We were awakened at 4:00 a.m. with Henry having a grand mal seizure. It was terrifying for Henry and us. He had a cluster of these seizures which including foaming at the mouth, urinating and defecating. We rushed him to the vet where he underwent cardiopulmonary arrest but was revived with CPCR measures. In his comatose state, we transferred him to MetropolitanEmergencyHospital. He was given many medications and was placed in ICU in an Oxygen Cage and had 24 hour monitoring. All doctors gave us extremely grave reports and we were told he probably would not make it thru the night.
WE WERE DEVASTATED!! The entire world started praying for this little guy and guess what? He survived! Henry was discharged from the hospital the evening of October 3. He is known by many as “A Miracle”. This little man has a mission on this earth. We had hoped to involve him in a therapy program like our other rescue dog – Sammy – however that may not be possible since he could not pass the medical assessment for a therapy program. Henry takes anti seizure medication every 8 hours and has had some other bumps during his recovery.
We are so very thankful this little man has survived. We love him so much. He has had such a terrible start in life which he – nor any other companion animal – deserves. We will do everything we can to make him happy, healthy and above all loved!
Henry’s emergency medical bills have totaled $4,002.00. We were not prepared for this sudden shock to our budget and thank goodness for credit cards. Thank you so much for your love and support.
