Pal's Place is a small foster based, all volunteer, no-kill rescue in Chicago that saves dogs from euthanasia at overburdened animal control facilites. We recently rescued a beautiful 1.5 year old Lab/Shepherd mix from a high kill shelter  in southern IL named Taupe. Upon examination by our vet it was discovered that Taupe not only had luxating patellas on both rear legs, but also a torn ACL on her right leg and a partial tear on her left leg. Taupe was most likely in this conditon for some time and it is very painful, so we opted to have her worse leg (right) done ASAP. Taupe had surgery on 10/21/13. Taupe's vet expenses have reached close to $2500 for her one leg and it is likely that once she fully recovers from this surgery, she will need another on her left leg. Aside from Taupe's major surgery this week, we also had a dog returned to our rescue from an adoptive home. Copper is an adorable Boxer mix that was determined to have double entropia upon his return. Entropia is a very painful condition where the eyelashes actually grow inwards towards the dog's eyeball causing a constant irritation and scraping against the lens. Copper also had surgery to correct this condition in both eyes. Like most rescues, we are short on funds and have had several other unexpected large vet bills within the past couple of months. The total for both dog's surgeries will be over $3000 and we are asking for donations to help! Our vet bill will need to be paid by 11/15/13 and if we are not able to cover it, we will be unable to continue our life-saving work; rescuing the dogs of southern IL.  If you can help, please contribute what you can, no amount is too small!
