Debra Layman hasn't added a story.
Amy (Zaryczny) Janisse is a 29 year old women, who is married and has a 6 year old son. On October 14th Amy recieved a life changing phone call that confirmed that she has ALS. Amy is a fighter, but at the same time needs all the prayers and donations she can get.
About 12 months ago Amy started experiencing some unusual symptoms. She noticed her speech was beginning to slur and she was having a hard time doing normal daily activities, she was losing strength in her hands. She has also experienced some difficulties walking and has fallen multiple times.
When Amy first started going to the Doctors they thought she was having mini-strokes, many test were ran and they ruled out the mini-strokes. She then saw a neurologist and felt like treatments were not satifsactory. She proceeded to get an appointment at U of M in Ann Arbor. Amy was evaluated and many test ran again, only this time they had an answer for her. Amy was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." ALS damages motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Motor neurons are nerve cells that control muscle movement and are an important part of the bodies neuromuscular system. The neuromuscular system enables our bodies to move and is made up of the brain, many nerves, and muscles. Things that we do everyday - like reading, walking, running, lifting stuff, and even reaching for a glass of water are all controlled by the neuromuscular system.
Amy is one of the first people to help others when they need it, but one of the last to ask for it. So let's offer our help now to Amy and her family, with prayers and donations during this time. We will keep you informed on updates as we receive them. We thank you in advance for all the contributions and prayers.
