Dear Friend,

Approximately one year ago we started acquiring parts for the first Doner Designs guitar with the intent of donating to some kind of charity. Since then we have built and donated two military style guitars to benefit and inspire children who are suffering from serious illness. One was donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for sale at a fundraiser auction in February. The second was donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and will be sold in a fundraiser auction on May 18, 2013.

Today we begin the conceptual design and fundraising processes for our next two projects – one guitar and one bass guitar. But we need help from our friends in order to warm more hearts with our cool guitars. It takes approximately 100 hours of labor to go from concept to delivery of one of our guitars. We do not, and will not, accept any compensation for our investment of time. But it also takes a significant investment in materials to build a guitar ($500 to $2,000 per guitar, depending on quality of components).

Doner Designs fully funded our first three guitars but we need others to help cover the cost of parts if we are to build more than a single guitar every year or two. Our resources are limited and we do not believe it would be right to cut off the other worthy causes we support in order to fund Doner Designs projects. Therefore, we have kicked off an online fundraising effort using “FundRazr” which works through Facebook and PayPal (PayPal account not required).

Here’s how it works…
• Supporters contribute almost any amount via FundRazr (see link below) using PayPal or a credit card.
• We pledge to use contributions exclusively for the materials cost of a guitar which will be donated to a charitable cause (see below).
• We pledge to build at least one guitar for donation. If fundraising does not meet goal, Doner Designs will cover the difference.
• If fundraising exceeds goal, we will include higher quality parts and accessories up to a point. At the point of diminishing returns we will either refuse further donations or apply excess proceeds to the next project.

Project specifics…
• Based on experience with our first two guitars, we don’t want to limit ourselves too much in terms of design specifics or target charities, however…
• Charities will likely be selected from among organizations like: Make-A-Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Lurie Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, etc.
• Another possibility is a direct contribution to a “Wish Kid” through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We would LOVE to do this but it’s dependent on having a sick child who wishes for one of our guitars.
• Guitar designs are likely to continue the military theme (to encourage a fighting spirit) but will be different from the first two. We would like each project to be one of a kind. We are considering a more modern Army/Air Force pair including desert camo and/or stealth concepts. We are also thinking about a NASA or space theme guitar.
• Once we have sufficient funding, our time frame would likely be between 8 to 12 months from design to donation. We will post regular updates with photos on our Facebook page.

Go to our facebook page or directly to our FundRazr page if you would like to contribute.

Thank you for your time and for considering a donation to help us put a smile on the face of a child who needs encouragement to fight the good fight for life.

Steve Doner
