A Mother’s Journey, Asking for Support 

Hello, my name is Massiel, and I’m a single mom of three amazing kids. I’m 40 years old, and one of my children, my sweet 8-year-old Liam, has spastic cerebral palsy and is also on the autism spectrum. He doesn’t walk or talk, and requires full-time care. In 2022, he underwent hip surgery, and now we are preparing for another procedure to remove the implants, meaning constant medical appointments that make it impossible for me to work full time right now.

For the past few months, life has been extremely difficult. Their father barely helps. My parents have always been a blessing, but lately, I can’t rely on them because my mom is currently undergoing breast cancer treatment. Some days, I’ve struggled so much that I couldn’t even afford food for myself, I would just spend the day at my mother’s house so my kids wouldn’t notice.

I’m actively searching for remote work, but the truth is every day feels like a struggle. The financial stress has been overwhelming, and I just want to be able to provide the basics for my kids: rent, food, electricity, internet, and Liam’s medical care.
