Each year, people with disabilities throughout the country of Ukraine
look forward to going to Ray of Hope camps in Ukraine. This retreat
center is wheelchair accessible, a rarity in Ukraine. Located in a
village in northwest Ukraine, near a river and forest. There, people
from all walks of life find respite, hope, fellowship and days full of
purpose. This year is different. Since the war started, this center
has become a haven for war refugees, some were passing through, and
others still reside there to this day. Food and lodging is provided
free of charge.
Mark Vertsekha and Alina Tupchyk from Santa Barbara will join
the local Ukrainian volunteers. Mark is going to support the camps
with various program responsibilities. Alina is an occupational
therapist (OT) at Cottage Hospital and will provide therapy for people
with disabilities, and teach the local therapists rehabilitation
techniques and use of specialized equipment.
Your contribution to this effort will cover the cost of food,
electricity, water, basic medical necessities, hygiene supplies and
