Throughout his life, Bill Rahn has touched many lives. As a husband, a father, and a friend who loves God and cares for people, Bill has made an impact on many of us. As a director of multiple films, Bill has impacted countless lives both on-set and through the finished product.
In early February, Bill and I were shooting a film in south Georgia. During this production, Bill was not feeling well and trying to take it easy, not sure of what he was fighting but trying to press on as many of us do. On Thursday, Feb 10, I received a call that Bill had gone to the hospital in hopes of receiving some monoclonal antibodies to help fight whatever it was that was attacking his body. Shortly after that, we received word that the hospital had decided to keep him and would be treating him for Pneumonia. (He tested negative for COVID so that was a relief).
After a week or so in the local hospital, Bill was transferred to Augusta University Medical Center. When he landed at the hospital, everything was fine and his trip was a success. However, shortly after landing, he tested positive for COVID and was determined to be an ICU COVID patient. At some point that night, the decision was made for him to be intubated (i.e. placed on a ventilator and sedated) to help his breathing and allow for better recovery. The good news is that this was a controlled/planned intubation, so it was not a life-threatening decision at the time.
Over the past few days, Amy (his wife), his daughters, and the rest of the family have wrestled with sharing too many details with those outside of his immediate family. Bill was a private person and his family was the same. He would not have wanted everyone making a fuss over this and having soo many people concerned about his health would have made him uncomfortable.
However – during the time that Bill has been sedated and unconscious, it has become apparent just how many lives this man has touched. I consider Bill to be my best friend and without going into the details, we have known each other for over 20 years and he has been there for me time and time again as I have lived through life’s battles; so it is only fitting that I be there for him and his family at this time of need. I have also seen that I am not alone. The sheer number of texts, calls, facebook messages, and emails that we have received only go to prove that point and show that Bill has impacted so many lives throughout his journey.
As of yesterday, Feb 26, Bill is fighting for his life. I am a believer in God and I believe 100% that God is the divine healer. We all know stories of times when the doctor has given the bleakest outlook and hope, only to be proven wrong by a miracle from God, so I only put so much “faith” in the Doctor’s prognosis. This is the situation we find ourselves in today. The Doctor’s called Amy yesterday and asked her to bring his family in to see him. Most patients don’t go more than 10 days in the ICU and the Doctor didn’t like the trend in Bill’s needs for Oxygen. The oxygen levels are currently at 100%, yet Bill’s body was only processing about 80% at the time, but it did go up to the low 90’s later yesterday, so that was a huge praise, but still not enough to get him out of the woods yet.
At this point, our hope is in Jesus Christ, the Almighty Healer, and that he hangs on enough to allow his lungs to recover. No doctor can predict when or what will happen next we have faith that they are doing everything possible to save his life.
So why are we asking for your donation?
This is always a HUGE ask, but as many of you know the term “starving actor”, there are also “starving directors” and “starving producers”. Although we know there are great things planned for our past film projects and we know that we have been blessed to have the success and distribution that we have already received, Bill & Amy have a large hill to climb financially between medical bills, having to take time off work, and other financial obligations.
My ask is this – please pray first – and if God leads you to give, then please do so in obedience and trust that he will honor that. Finally, if you have the ability to share this link with others in your sphere of influence who may be more financially blessed, I would ask that you do so. God also blesses those efforts and sometimes puts people in our lives, for reasons we cannot understand, but I believe that EVERY connection is there for a reason.
God Bless!
