For the 3 years I have been relying on used mobility scooters with unsafe consequences. Although I have had a couple given to me by a very generous friend of mine that were quite reliable but have since been retired. These were greatly appreciated. Others that left me stranded with several flat tires because the tires were deteriorating or the batteries not holding a charge. The latest scooter has a problem with the ignition key that works and then suddenly it doesn't work and has actually stopped me while crossing a busy intersection. Being stranded when you are disabled is scary and dangerous. It's also embarrassing. Usually the only way home is to call a wheelchair taxi. Taxi drivers are usually not very helpful in these situations.

I need a new mobility scooter, something I can totally rely on to get around. Now that I am a senior on a fixed income it is hard to come up with the finances to buy one, they are very expensive. A basic one starts at $3,800, accessories are extra. Added expenses like this would have come from profits from my small home based business Tinasco Graphics but with covid the business took quite a heavy hit and is not recovering as of yet. A scooter means freedom and independence. Most of you know that I have been a paraplegic since 2010. This wasn't a problem until 3 years ago my husband Doug had a major stroke and now he is in a care home. His stroke has left him with very bad deliberating physical disabilities but his mind is fully intact. He is prisoner in his own body. I use my scooter to go and visit him every day and in all types of weather, even snow. He is only a 15 minute scooter ride away. My visits are the only bright spot in his day. I also use it to do my own grocery shopping, go to doctor appointments, go to pick up my prescriptions and to just get out of the house for fresh air.

I have been very reluctant and embarrassed to ask for help. I want to be as self sufficient as I can. By helping me reach my goal you will be giving me freedom that I need. Making it possible for me to come and go when I want to, not relying on taxis, handi dart or others for rides unless really I have to. Without a new scooter it is just like being in quarantine all over again! I thank you for visiting my campaign.
