Ann LaBelle hasn't added a story.
Biggs was brought into the shelter to be euthanized. His owner wanted him killed because he had worms. Thankfully they got him up on the page, we saw him....and knew we had to help. We had him transferred off code red to a local hospital were he would be safe.
Unfortunately, Biggs received subpar treatment at the hospital and was transported with in very poor condition. He arrived with some serious rectal bleeding and went straight to our doctors for care. Dr. T referred him to our specialist, Dr. H. We had him there within the week. After careful examination Dr. T said that Biggs needed surgery and sent us over to the surgery department. We made our appointment with Dr. B and then Covid hit.
Biggs became an "unessential" surgery (non life threatening) and was put on hold. In the course of Covid, the surgery department closed and our doctors were sent to other hospitals. We've waited and waited, and all the while Biggs continues to bleed out of his rectum. While we waited we got rid of all those nasty worms and Biggs underwent heartworm treatment as well....all with a smile!
This week we couldn't wait any longer. We tracked down Dr. B at the hospital he is now working with and have scheduled an appointment with the possibility of same day surgery. Biggs' rectal bleeding has gotten worse and he needs to get in so we are thrilled with the possibility of same day surgery.
This is a pretty extensive & evasive procedure that Biggs needs done. They will need to completely remove his rectum, cut out the damaged pieces, sew the rectum and then reinsert/reattach the rectum. He will be required to stay overnight for observation to make sure that his rectum doesn't slip back out and the stitches will hold. Poor bubbas, but it has to be done.
Biggs is really going to need your kindness and generosity the next 8 days as we'll need to have this fully funded before they will do the procedure, this isn't a hospital we normally deal with so we have zero wiggle room on payment. Can you help a good boy out? No dog should have to go this long without treatment and now that we can help....we need you!
