On December 15., 1944 1 Lt Jack M. Jarrell jr., flew an armed reconnaissance in the Wiesbaden area. This day he piloted a P-38 J-10 (370 Fighter Group, 485th Fighter Squadron), Serial 42-67940.
After a fight with german Messerschmitt Me Bf 109 smoke came out of his aircraft, five minutes later flames. He jumped out of the P-38 and was last seen to land in a wooden area near Wiesbaden. His chute was hanging on the treetops.
Since this day 1Lt Jarrell jr. is "Missing in Action". His name is on the "Walls of the missing" on the American War Cemetery Ardennes.
A few days ago Uwe Benkel from "Arbeitsgruppe Vermisstenforschung" "Search MIA" was contacted to help finding out what happened to 1Lt Jarrell jr. after he landed and to locate his remains and bring them back home. He also is in contact with Gloria C., the niece of 1Lt Jarrell jr.
"We want to find out what happened, locate the remains, inform american officials and bring the remains back home to the family" ,Uwe Benkel says
"We have to do a lot of research, traveling, finding eyewitnesses and all of this costs a lot of money we have to pay out of your own earned mones, there is no support from the government", Benkel continues.
Uwe Benkels wish: May all american citizens and friends of Uwe Benkel and his well known team stand together to support and contribute towards this and other projects. "If we all do this together, we have a big chance to find him and bring him back home.
We here in germany are willing to spend our time and power to help families looking for their missing loved ones, husbands, fathers, sons etc.
