Hello everyone. My name is Jennifer. Over the past 5 years I have overcome a number of obstacles and have had to swallow my pride more times than I can count. I've worked really hard and am almost there but I guess it’s  time for one more big ask.

Five years ago, I had just given birth to twins when I found out my now ex-husband has been lying about his identity  and had accumulated hidden debt the whole time we were together . Additionally, I lost my job just after we financed our new family home. As a result, we lost everything and  had to declare bankruptcy. The girls and I lost our home and were on the verge of homelessness when the Indigenous community offered us social housing.

I worked hard to find a job, and even completed a Masters degree while working and coparenting the twins. I also saved and paid cash for a used car, and managed to save just under $10,000 toward a down payment on a new house. Then really great things started to happen, I graduated and was offered a better job. I  found out that I am eligible for a homeowners grant that will help me with my down payment, and despite the odds I managed to rebuild my credit just enough to get approved for a mortgage. I have found a modest home for my girls and I, and am looking forward to us once again having a place to call our own.

This is where I must ask for help. Despite all my hard work, I am still $7000 short for the down payment and closing costs. I would wait and keep saving, but the grant is only available if I make a purchase before June 1st, a mere sixty days from when I was notified of my eligibility. Without this grant opportunity I will like not be able to own my own home again for another 5 or more years.

The past 5 years have been tremendously difficult on my physical and mental health. I know there are so many great causes out there and so many people have their challenges, but I feel like this is a small hurdle that I can overcome with just a little bit of help. I know I can afford the payments on the house, it’s just the initial down payment and closing costs that are proving to be a challenge. I’ve worked so hard and come so very close, so if you are willing and able, I would appreciate any donation you can offer, no matter how small.
