I have to get something off of my chest . Its about being honest
about your pain that's makes you invincible . I had genuinely thought
about changing my entire content around to NOT share my struggle with
anyone. But I realized that I can't do this alone .
My Mother Josefina Radilla Velasco is currently in a detention
facility . The United States has been her home for more than 20 yrs .
Unfortunately she was incarcerated in April 21 ( not to long ago ) .
She was subsequently arrested which taken into immigration custody.
Then transferred to Irwin detention center , her prolonged detention
has been extremely painful for my family and I . Furthermore, whether
or not you've had any experience with incarcerated family members, the
pain of being indefinitely separated from your loved ones is something
I hope you can empathize.
The first generation here in this country, I learned both
languages as I learned to speak and was the first to graduate from
High School thanks to my mother. My Mother has always been determined
and devoted women . I remember how I always helped her in jobs that
she had when it came to cleaning houses, apartments, offices . You
name it I was there to help her and my family move forward. In the
little time that she had she taught me so much.
She took great
pride in her accomplishments and loves to work. While we struggled
through the years , she constantly reminded us to do focus on our
education. Which , I am striving to attend college . However , without
my mother's sacrifices I am not sure
I would have made it to
where I am now . This situation has turned our lives upside down . We
are in constant fear that we will be permanently separated from our
mother . My mother is good hearted women . She has struggled to always
provided for me and my siblings and to gives a better life . More than
ever we need her and she needs her family.
Currently I took my mother's spot at her job . She works the
nightshift ( coming in from 10 pm - 6am ) at the aquarium. Two days
before she got transferred to Irwin detention center I went in for her
soo she won't lose her job. Ever since I've been running around
looking for a way out to come up with the bail money that they're
asking for . I've been asking everyone to borrow money but of course
if it doesn't benefit them they're not interested. And well honestly
there's only so much that I can do. However , I'm not in this alone I
have 5 younger siblings that still are in need of there mother as much
as I am . It's not easy being a mother of six children now can y'all
imagine what I'm struggling with at this moment.
Once a go to work , I come home and sleep for about 5 hrs .
Within the day that have past by it's been overwhelming and a handful
. Consulting with lawyers , making sure my siblings have food in their
stomach and are well taken care of isn't easy . The four oldest are
working to save up as much as we can. But we can't do this alone . Up
to right anything helps . I would truly be grateful.
