There aren't too many young people who know how to write in Cree syllabics or know their well language well enough to write children's stories and while I am constantly learning as I develop a stronger relationship with my language, I've always been writing stories and drawing. There are not a whole lot of children's books that have Indigenous Language and I want to change that. One day I hope to get the Burt Award for my stories. Publishing has always very 'uncertain' for me. I suppose I'm like my grandfather in the sense that you should hear stories while sitting on the floor eating a fresh piece of bannock and listening to Mooshum or Kookum talk about his or her stories, the legends s/he carried for their grandchildren to listen to. Because oral tradition is not about remembering or memorizing but creating emotional memories with those stories, with the very storyteller himself or herself and developing a relationship with the words they spoke. But then again, I am from another generation-the one who grew up around techonology and writing down things, documenting precious things. So this is why I would like to publish stories of my own (stories I feel come from writing from blood memory) and traditional Omushkegowuk legends and stories.

As a young person, it's hard to get taken seriously but I'm hoping that if I start smaller (while my heart thinks and feels bigger), this would be a much more achievable goal. There is a company that specializes in creating apps and e-books called Ogoki Learning Systems and I hoping to raise enough money to publish regular books, books with audio by Spoken Books Publishing and these kind of books. Not everyone can afford to have an Ipad so I am thinking of having options available for people. Please share with people who would support this idea. Miigwetch!
