A Walk on the Wild Side

We're now in the second month of a fund-raising campaign in tribute of James life and have just reached 20% of our final target.   The idea is to celebrate his interest in the outdoors through creating an interactive bench to encourage the sharing of creative ideas and thoughts.

Our first target is to raise enough money to create the bench itself (sketched below), which has been designed by local artist Will Glanfield  http://www.willglanfield.co.uk and will be made out of green oak.

Bench Design

The location of the bench has yet to be confirmed but we are hoping to get planning permission to have it installed on the coastline somewhere between Whitstable and Seasalter, a place James enjoyed escaping to.

Depending on the final location, the plan is to plant wild flora and fauna around the bench. We are hoping it will be a place for the community to use for a range of different creative activities close to James' heart, such as nature trails, foraging walks, or story-telling.

We have been in touch with Project Wild Thing http://projectwildthing.com and are keen to promote their ethos of improving the well-being of kids by encoraging them to spend more time pursuing outdoor activities. By involving local schools we hope to enrich their education of local wildlife and history, and provide them a natural context in which to explore their artistic capabilities. With any extra money raised we will look to create a publication that records creativity inspired by the bench and it's surroundings. This may include stories, art work, poetry or even recipes.

Please support us in our mission to create a legacy in James' memory. Please share any thoughts and ideas through our Facebook page:    https://www.facebook.com/wild.side.5036
