April Tomasik Morosco hasn't added a story.
My dear friend Mary and her children need our help. As many of you may or may not know, my sister-in-law Mary received 2 extensive back surgeries 3 weeks ago. During the first surgery there was extreme blood loss. It was soon thought that Mary suffered a thalamic stroke. The thalamic is a large ovoid mass of gray matter situated in the posterior part of the forebrain that relays sensory impulses to the cerebral cortex. After many tests and several MRIs, it was recently reclassified simply as a “brain injury”.
Mary is now on her 4th week in the hospital and has recently been moved to the rehab floor. She now has the challenge ahead of her to not only recuperate physically but she must also undergo speech therapy and the rebuilding of her cognitive skills. Just as no two people are exactly alike, no two brain injuries are exactly alike. Mary has made some amazing progress in the last week but her prognosis for a full recovery is currently unknown.
Mary and her family have a long journey ahead of them. Tom, (22) her oldest is currently enrolled at SUNY IT in Utica with goals to become a lawyer. Kayla (20) is enrolled in college in Pittsburgh and Abby (15) is still attending high school. Tom, has assumed the role of head of the household and has decided to take a break from classes to care for his mother and siblings for the next few months.
I have known Mary for 22 years and we have become more than in-laws. She is my friend, confidant, & sister. Anyone who knows her, knows that she is always there for anyone in need. She is a kind, strong, intelligent woman who deserves to be given the chance to see the many milestones her children have yet to achieve.
Please join me in making a donation to assist with bills while she is recovering. Every amount, no matter the denomination, is truly appreciated !
