A week ago, a good friend of mine, James Shipley, was arrested for violating his probation. He had been kicked out from his home by family due to his homosexuality. He ended up on the streets for a month before he was given residency at another place he could call home. Unfortunately, he was arrested shortly after for moving without permission from his probation officer, despite lacking the option of waiting on permission due to the terms of his leaving his previous home. He currently has been in jail since Sept 11, waiting for a court date that probably won’t be coming until November at the earliest.
I’m not normally one who would ask for donations to just about anything, because I feel that it can get to be on the border of begging for money, but this isn’t about me, and how I feel about donations. This is about getting my friend back home so he can continue to turn his life around. He made some stupid mistakes in the past, which is why he is on probation to begin with, but as of this year, he is now going to college, trying to improve his life for the better. If he does end up stuck in jail until November at the earliest, that’s a semester of education lost, as well as an opportunity that will be much more stricken because of that.
His roommate and I are trying to raise enough money to get him back home, and to pay off his fines. I know that there probably won’t be a lot of people who actually read this, but I do ask that if you do and cannot help assist, to please at least spread the word so we can get him back home again.
The goal for this is pretty steep at $6500 for fines and for a lawyer, but I hope that we could possibly reach that goal.
