Lee Stevens hasn't added a story.
As a lot of you know Stella, an American Bulldog, was turned into Baldwin Park animal shelter in LA County, CA by her owner. We don't know the reason why, but she was left in a cold, loud, smelly shelter to die. Celebrating Pugs n Pups Riverside (CPNPR) which rescues all breeds, was happy to rescue Stella from the shelter. Once CPNPR stepped up for this beautiful girl, 3 different rescues started bad mouthing CPNPR for wanting to help Stella because she is a bully breed. (CPNPR rescues bullies as well as pugs and other breeds so they had the experience necessary to handle this young lady, even at her grumpiest of moments). Because of all the anger directed at CPNPR and their offer, the group stepped back since all of the other rescues wanted her so badly.
Note: While these other rescues were busy trying to discredit CPNPR they (the other groups) asked for pledges and apparently raised over $700.00 for Stella.
Well push came to shove and after all that talk, there was NO ACTION; all 3 of the other rescues backed away and left Stella to die. Not to worry, CPNPR, with the help of Kyle Schwab (Smashface Rescue) was keeping tabs on everything happening and immediately stepped back up to save this little girl.
The shelter deemed Stella aggressive, so after fighting with them for 4 or 5 days and begging for help from every corner of the world, CPNPR was able to get Stella free from the shelter and she is now with Kyle living a great life. As for the aggression, non-existent. Remember, most shelters use only a couple of methods to temp test a dog. They either try the stare down method, which immediately puts the dog in defense mode or they use that stupid plastic hand to try to take food away from a hungry baby. If you were starving, had a meal in front of you and some fool tried to take it you would growl too!
Stella had been in the shelter a long time and is suffering from some respiratory issues and dehydration. She has been getting meds and fluids daily and was starting to improve, but this morning about 3 am her rectum prolapsed and now she is in urgent need of surgery to correct this.

Not a single penny of the $700 originally pledged to help Stella was honored. Once again, they all TURNED THEIR BACKS ON HER. In this instance, EGOS were more important than her life. This is NOT what rescue is about.
We are now trying to raise the money to get Stella the surgery she needs to be a healthy, happy girl. If all of our friends give even $1, we will be well on our way. Every penny counts, no amount is too small. ….just remember that.
On behalf on CPNPR, Kyle Schwab and Harlee’s Angels, thank you so very, very much for any amount you care to donate. We will get Stella her surgery ! Please keep her in your prayers.
