Everett and I need your help. Everett has a liver shunt that needs surgery. This surgery is $2,500 and we right now cannot afford it. This surgery is needed for Everett to survive.

Everett was diagnosed with a liver shunt at the age of 6 months. He went in for his neutering and I was told I could not neuter him because his liver values were slightly elevated. I was told he would need a bile acid test to determine whether or not he had a liver condition known as 'shunt' a liver shunt is a blood vessel that carries blood around the liver instead of through it. This means that the blood is not being cleaned properly and chemicals are being built up in the dogs system. This can cause lethargy, weight loss, seizures, muscle loss, even death..

The bile acid tests came back and I was told Everett had a shunt. My heart stopped and I had a meltdown. I had done everything right up until his diagnosis. He had all his vaccines, he was on the premium brand of dog food, he even had pet insurance! Unfortunately the shunt is considered a birth defect and not covered by insurance.

The vet gave Everett a special prescription diet but he then started developing ascities (fluid build up in the abdomen) this gets so bad that he needs his stomach drained with a needle monthly. It is very expensive. $100 each draining. I knew that food would not work so I found a homemade diet and hoped with the medications he was on and the low sodium homemade diet he would improve. Two years later and many changes Everett has still not improved. I have been putting his surgery off because I am in such debt from his routine veterinary care. I am beginning to realize Everett's shunt is not manageable and he will need the surgery to survive. I have found a hospital in Buzzards Bay and also NH that can do the surgery.

Everett and I NEED your help. I have done everything I can to help this baby and this is our last option.
