Student --> Nurse: St. Croix & UAE
Greetings!
This year at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing has been phenomenal! My goal is to experience as much as possible and engage in as many opportunities as I can in order to be, not just a well-rounded culturally competent Nurse-Midwife, but also a compassionate human being. As some of you know, I have been supporting underserved women in Baltimore through labor via the Birth Companions/Doula program at Johns Hopkins. Women's Health and Labor & Delivery are my passions. I have applied and been accepted for a 1 week international Public Health rotation in rural St. Croix (Virgin Islands) and a 6 week international clinical placement at Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The latter is a strictly mom and baby placement and I will get to work with midwives!
I am hoping to raise $5,000 to cover expenses as I still have to pay tuition while I am away.
For those of you who don't know, I am a first generation college student and have paid for my college education on my own. This trip will be another dream come true. Nothing worth having comes easy but I am no stranger to challenges. I will get there one way or another!
