Request for financial assistance to maintain Ginger's Therapy Dog Membership (which includes a $1,000,000 umbrella policy). I have to make a lot of careful choices with my disability income of $717 per month. I have been trying for weeks but have not been able to come up with any money to continue our service work without asking for contributions to renew Ginger's membership as a Therapy Dog. It always comes due in Dec and since Peggy died, its been an ongoing struggle to keep her registered. Each winter, she must see a vet, be tested for heart worms and other worms, have a physical, have a current rabies vac (I had it done at free clinic) and travel 70 miles RT to the vet, who must certify that she is in good health and can perform her duties. Then there is the $30 registration fee, due this month, which pays for a $1,000.000 umbrella policy to cover her/me while on duty so that if there was an accident, my home and assets would not be attached. I have 24 years of volunteer service as a Therapy Dog Handler and spent one year as a tester. Certification takes weeks, and if she lapses at all, she has to start from the beginning as if she had not been certified for the last 9 years, which includes 3-4 trips to Ellsworth and re testing. That's 280 miles of driving and 16 hours time, then the same vet tests and registration fees. Although this is an act of kindness for me and for Ginger, receiving help to register her, it benefits all those she will serve and those that they share the joy of her service with. We often serve healthcare staff member as much as we serve patients, which then gives them something in common to discuss besides health issues. Ginger also chaired a Reading Program in Frankfort last summer. Without keeping Ginger current, her service career (and mine) will be over. My dogs and I have served 1000's of people and spent 100's of hours training over the years. I am responsible for all fees to take Ginger to 'work' and we are allowed to accept NO gifts or contributions for services, although I sometimes bend the rule and let an agency buy her a box of bones. I must keep her training current, and keep her clean, trimmed and groomed for work, and they even expect the handler to look presentable. LOL. I am asking if people would be willing to make a contribution of $1 or more toward this expense so that Ginger and I can continue to serve. I have a pay pal account for donations and if we can't raise the $180 (which will cover the vet, the millage, any needed treatments and her insurance policy/membership, and paypal fees-sorry
) and she does not get re certified, I will refund all donations. Thank you for reading this. For brevity's sake, I have left out the details of my financial situation, but PM me if you need more info. Once more, thanks for your consideration. Sue and Ginger,. CGC, TDI, HC.
