It began in my early years as a child with awe for wild creatures; I still remember the first time I tracked a Lineated Woodpecker through the dense canopy, watching its natural behavior up close. That awe quickly turned into a cold realization when I learned how many of these native species were silently disappearing to illegal hunting and trafficking. It was the exact moment I realized my career in criminal investigation had to serve a higher purpose: giving a voice and legal protection to creatures that cannot speak for themselves.
Bridging Forensics and Conservation Science
My journey began with a strong foundation in criminal investigation and security, where I honed technical forensic techniques from lophoscopy and latent evidence recovery to strict chain-of-custody protocols. But standard forensics only solves part of the equation. To effectively combat complex environmental offenses, science must meet legal justice at the molecular level.
To bridge this gap, I have spent the past few years expanding my scientific expertise:
- Advanced Coursework: Auditing specialized programs in biochemistry, ecology, wildlife crime prevention, and animal welfare.
- Applied Field Research: Investigating regional bird poaching patterns and human impacts on local avian populations.
- Forensic Application: Adapting traditional criminalistic methodologies directly to environmental and wildlife crime scenarios.
The Next Step: University of Florida
My goal is to pursue a Master of Science in Wildlife Forensic Sciences and Conservation at the University of Florida, a world-class program specifically designed to combat illegal wildlife trafficking, poaching, and environmental crime. By combining advanced forensic science, animal law, and conservation biology, this degree will equip me to:
