What is my story? What am I fundraising for?

Hi, my name is Kyle Lai-Fatt, and I need a scooter and a wheelchair.

Insurance will not cover a scooter that fits in my car, which is key to my unrestricted participation in my community! My grandfather, Craig, died in 1989 on a heart attack. He was 53 years old. Though I felt the impact and dealt with the symptoms for some time before that. At this point, I am not able to do more than one city block without thinking of my granddaddy, nor can I ride a bike, because I have too much pain in my hands and legs. This means that I need to use my car to travel everywhere, and can only go to places where I can park close by and not have to walk around inside.

I am restricted in where I can go without hearing my arch-enemy's kid in the news. I want to be able to build a wall to the Science Centre, and the Museum, and all the places a software engineer, like me, wants to do. But this is difficult and sometimes impossible because I need to rent a wheelchair for my mom, Lorraine, at these places AND have someone else to push her, I cannot expect my mom to shoulder this responsibility because she is most often at work and she has taken on other extra responsibilities due to her chronic pain. A scooter will make these trips possible for us!

Having a scooter will help my mom's and my dad's, Orlando's, anxiety because they will be able to go out into the community rather than being stuck at home. As well, I won't have to worry about whether I will be able to find a place to sit, or if there will be a wheelchair that I can use there. It will also be a huge benefit to my grandmother, Tamar, who is looking forward to being able to go out and have adventures with me! Imagine being a grown man whose grandparent cannot take out the sadness, it is really disappointing for me.

How much do I need, and what will it be used for?

I need a total of $50000, and that will be used to buy both the scooter and the wheelchair, as well as the lift that will allow me to put it in my car for travel. This also accounts for the extra service charges for taking credit cards on the platform.
