Hello there! My name is Billy Townsend. I am asking for donations to help my son Colton finish paying his membership dues to Louisiana Stars, a prestigious drum and bugle corps. The total membership dues are $2400. However, his mother and I have already paid $1000 towards that total cost, leaving a balance of $1400. The mission of the Louisiana Stars Drum and Bugle Corps is to provide a superior educational performing arts program, representing Louisiana throughout the United States, to give youth an opportunity to develop musical skills, social skills, and partnership skills. To give you a better idea of what this is really all about, please click on the big arrow and watch the YouTube Video of last year's Louisiana Stars performance in the Drum Corps International Open Class Finals. It may not seem like such a big deal, but these young people put hundreds and hundreds of hours of practice to make this 12 and 1/2 minute performance be as perfect as humanly possible.
We actually live in Arkansas, but Louisiana Stars has members from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana (obviously), Mississippi, Nevada, North & South Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas.
The total $2400 membership dues helps to pay for food and lodging. The corps has an extensive travel/performance schedule, with stops in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. All of this actually happens over a 30 day period, beginning on July the 8th.
