David Elkins hasn't added a story.
Upon waking up and unable to move my right leg my wife called 911 to get an ambulance to take me to the hospital.
While hooking me up to all the monitors they discovered an irregular heartbeat, called atrial fibrillation. Ran a bunch of heart tests, gave me medication and got it temporarily under control. Then started trying to figure out what was wrong with my knee. Took x-ray, did ultrasound and some other tests and couldn't find anything. Extracted a bunch of fluid from the knee, took a bunch of blood samples and ran some tests. After a few days was told there was no infection. Physical therapy started working with me. Couldn't stand or put any weight on my leg. Did various leg exercises while sitting to start getting strength back. The next day I was able to stand briefly using a walker for support. Because of previously diagnosed back and leg pain, back surgery was scheduled. I was very hopeful that this would fix the constant nerve pain that I have been having for the past few years which has gotten worse in the past six to nine months. And then I was supposed to go to rehab to work on regaining the strength in my legs, but insurance wouldn't approve it. It's not been a good time recently.
The back surgery relieved the constant pain I was in for so long but my legs were very weak due to inactivity in the hospital. Physical therapy came each day and worked with me in the hospital. My left leg was and still is very weak, so much that I cannot step up onto a curb or go up stairs. My right knee is very sore and while in the hospital I was never told what the problem was. Saw an orthopedic doctor who diagnosed arthritis. I am relieved that the prior back and leg pain is gone, but need to find out why my legs are still very weak especially my left leg. I ended up being in the hospital for 23 days and upon returning home a physical therapist came to my home for three weeks to work with me. Able to walk better and can drive again, but left leg is still extremely weak. Hopefully we will get some answers after a few more doctor visits and some rehab. My wife took time off work for which she doesn't get paid. Medical bills before insurance kicks in are quite large. My share was less once the insurance paid its share but it is still substantial and caused a big hit to my budget. I apologize for asking for help because I know that things are tough all over, but if you can help with anything I would appreciate it more than you know. Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide. I love you all.
