Not so long ago here in Kenya the population of Donkeys has been tremendously high but due to poverty and lack of knowledge local communities have been deceived to sell their donkeys for slaughter...

The Younger Chinese generation is driving the importation of tonnes of donkey meat from Kenya, which is in turn threatening to reduce the donkey numbers .The report published in January this year shows that China’s demand for donkey hides is hinged on the skin’s medicinal properties. A gelatinous material- E’jiao – is believed to have anti-ageing and libido-enhancing properties, fueling the demand for donkey hides.

Who are we? And why we are crowdfunding?

We are young men and women in group called Donkey Rights Group,committed to mobilize,educate the affected communities and bring advocacy to steps of the local administration to stop mass selling and slaughter of Donkeys here in Kenya.

We have been doing this for a while and we have capability to achieve our  goal,we have really struggled to find funding to support this imperative task to save Donkeys from depleting.

We have therefore launched this crowdfunding campaign to raise much needed awareness and funds for this vital task.

Why is this so important?

1.The local communities are complaining of the reduction in numbers of donkeys, have  been means of transport in this areas thus playing an integral part in their lives.

2.We have taken this initiative to sensitize,educate and mobilize the local communities about importance donkeys,this will happen through community meetings,door to door educative sessions. 

3.We will buy new Donkeys to severely affected families so that they regain their former status economically and social status in the communities.

How much do we need to raise? And what is the exact budget breakdown of costs?

100% of all funds raised will go towards costs. We do part time jobs and we will support our cost of living and other personal requirements

The  minimum amount we require to facilitate this task is $20,000. The budget breakdown is as

follows:

1.Van for Rescue and Transport

In-country travel and Fuel: $2000

New Truck van and trailer to carry donkeys:$5000

2.Community Mobilizations and campaign materials

All educational materials,survey,security and professional facilitation:$5000

3. Donkey Treatments and Vets Fees and other medicines as required

All inclusive : $4500

4.Community support

Buying of donkeys for the severely affected families:$3500
