Richard Priem is seeking the Republican Party nomination for the First Congressional District of New Mexico. 

Richard proposes the following as his approach to what he wishes to accomplish as the next US Representative from New Mexico's First Congressional District:

I am proposing what I call the "3D" approach to making the Federal government more responsive to the needs and desires of the American people:

DOWNSIZE the government. Focus the Federal government on performing functions mandated by the Constitution.

DISPERSE government agencies. Relocate them closer to their operations and the people they s...erve (Energy to Albuquerque, Interior to Denver, Agriculture to Omaha, etc.). Break the "inside-the-Beltway" arrogance that leads to government actions that interfere with the day-to-day lives of Americans.

DISARM civilian government agencies the don't have law enforcement missions. Keep the FBI. Remove law enforcement agents from most other Federal agencies (why does the EPA need an armed police force?). Seize and destroy military style weapons and equipment used by Federal agencies that do have legitimate internal law enforcement missions.

Why do this?

The Federal government has grown too large and expensive, and performs functions that are better performed by state and local governments.

Government actions often don't reflect the desires and best interests of the American people. The insular, incestuous nature of the Washington, DC, bureaucrat population is out of touch with America and creates problems, not solutions.

Civilian law enforcement agencies don't need military armored cars and machines guns. If a crisis requires those items, the Federal government should declare Martial Law and employ trained and appropriately-equipped military forces.

It's time for major change. I will work toward making our Federal government an organization that supports Americans, not one that tries to control every aspect of the lives of honest, law-abiding Americans.
