Kassie Boyd hasn't added a story.
In October of 2013, my mother, Lois, started complaining of pain in her leg. After suffering from her third stroke, we didn't think much over it as she had been in rehabilitation and it was a small annoyance for her.
As the year wore on and became 2014, Mom began complaining about pain in her chest, shoulder, and back. A sudden ER trip later at the end of January led to the discovery of lung cancer.
It is inoperable lung cancer that had spread to her rib bones.
The original plan was to use radiation and chemo to fight back and if not defeat it, at least give Mom a few more years to live.
Unfortunately, the cancer had caused the blood to clot around her lungs. The doctors put her on blood thinners, only they failed to prevent the next problem: blood clots in Mom's legs.
The doctor performed an emergency operation on Mom's leg to remove the blood clot and try to save Mom's leg, which was already turning pale and blue from lack of blood flow.
This was this past Tuesday, and it failed.
Not only did it fail despite initial hope, but there turned out to be multiple blood clots in Mom's leg which recloted overnight. To top it off, her other leg started to show the same symptoms the next morning.
Due to the severity of the clotting and the inoperable lung cancer, Mom's doctors urged hospice. Mom agreed, as we had no other options. In accordance with my mother's wishes, we brought her home with the understanding that she could die any time now. She wishes to die at home with her family around her, and I will give her that.
And we did. On February 15th, 2014, Mom died the day after she came home.
We have made the arrangements with the cheapest funeral home in town, and the total comes to more than $6,000. It is not as expensive as it could be, but it doesn't change the fact that neither my brother or I, nor the rest of the family, have enough money to cover a funeral. We already have plots at the family cemetery, but caskets and funeral services still cost a lot of money.
I do not know what I could possibly give you in return for your donation of even $1, but I thank you. To anyone who donates to help ease this burden, I thank you.
