Recently, my youngest daughter Aimee, learned that she has a severe detached retina in her left eye. One day, about eight months ago, Aimee was playing her guitar with a cheap capo that suddenly snapped off and hurled a half inch piece of wood towards her left eye leaving her in a lot of pain and temporarily blind. After 30 minutes or so, the pain subsided and she could see clearly again. Fast-forward seven months and that would lead to a day that Aimee was at work and noticed something was bothering her eye, So later on she went home, washed her face, and when she looked in the mirror, that's when she realized something was very wrong. Now, we are here a month later and after seeing an optometrist and an eye specialist, we have learned that Aimee is in great need of an extensive surgery for a detached retina. Even though the surgery is not corrective, it will however, stop the detached retina from getting worse. The trauma caused a large tear in her eye that has progressed over recent weeks, leading to the loss of the gell inside her eye as well as the retina being detached from the macular. The specialist at Omni Eye Services told us that “her condition is as serious as it gets and she needs emergency eye surgery ”. Because Aimee is working a “full-time job” she doesn’t qualify for Medicaid, but her employer doesn't offer medical benefits because she is condidered a part-time employee. The surgery is tentatively scheduled at Northside Hospital this Thursday (5/23/13) and will take between four and five hours with a month off work for recovery. According to her surgeon Dr. Ajamian, if she doesn't have the operation within the next week, Aimee will permanently lose what little vision she has remaining in that eye. Currently she sees 20/50.
Although $5,000 is what we must pay Aimee's surgeon, the hospital bill is expected to be in the range of $25,000. With a down payment of $2,500 for the doctor, and $8,000 to Northside Hospital We can make payments for the balance.
Please, please, help with a donation if you can, help with prayers or good thoughts if you can't donate, and please share this with anyone who comes to mind who might be willing and able to help save Aimee's sight!
