This summer I will be traveling with a medical caravan, aiding and assisting the Maasai people from village to village in remote areas of Kenya. And I need your help. This trip is in conjunction with my church, Calvary Chapel Vail Valley and Global Village Ministries (GlobalVillageMinistries.org). This organization functions 100% pro bono in order to designate all charitable contributions for the purpose of service, and requires that volunteers pay their expenses.

The purpose of the medical mission is to provide medical care to the Maasai people because Kenyans do not usually touch or lay hands on the Maasais, let alone give them medical attention. Separate from this medical trip, Global Village Ministries has raised a fund to help Maasai girls at risk for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early childhood marriage. In addition to service trips, donations help pay for the girls’ education, including tuition and boarding fees.

As a volunteer on the medical mission I will assist the medical staff in a variety of functions so that they can focus their time on providing medical care. Last year, the dentists extracted 1,600 teeth.

I will only be bringing a few articles of clothing so I can use all of the weight the airline allows, to transport much-needed supplies to the Maasai people in large trunks. We sleep in tents on the ground and eat local food. These inconveniences are a small discomfort for the medical care provided to the Maasai.

Each individual is required to raise $4,000 for the trip to pay for the airfare, in-country travel, and food. I contributed the first $1,000 toward cost of travel along with time off from work.

Unfortunately, you cannot make a tax deductible donation here, but you CAN by sending a check payable to Calvary Chapel Vail Valley. Mail to PO Box 979, Avon, CO 81620. Be sure to write “Michelle Rampelt – Kenya” in the memo. You will receive a statement noting the deduction in January; please request in writing if you need it sooner and the Calvary will do that. I am sorry this is a nuisance. Also, to avoid website fees you can send checks directly to me at PO Box 2652, Edwards, CO 81632.

In addition, I have been hand-making earrings to raise funds and I would be very pleased to send you a pair of my love-made creations. They are wonderful gifts and no donation is too small.

Thank you in advance, as I know there are many organizations and people to which you can donate your hard-earned money. As well, I realize these are still very tough times.

Love and God Bless,
Michelle
