Freedom – what a strong word and that is exactly what Dottie needed. The definition of Freedom is “the condition of being free of restraints.”
Dottie’s life has always been tough. She was turned over to a rescue because the people who had her stated that she had been closed up in a recliner and her back was broken but after many vet visits it turned out that Dottie was a little more unique than that. Originally when she came into rescue in Nov of 2012 she was thought to have a condition called "Neospora", an infection passed via the birth canal to the puppies. This is normally cured with the first set of puppy shots which she never had. She was treated aggressively for the condition and did improve a small bit. However, it became very obvious that there was something else wrong.
In January 2013, Dottie underwent an neurological consult and it was discover she had "an neurologic injury, with secondary muscle changes". Upon further neurological exam, an MRI, it was determined the area where her spine goes through the neck to the brain had been broken at one point and healed improperly, preventing her from holding her neck up and straight. Further study determined that surgery would not be a viable option and might make her worse since Dottie had been left untreated for almost 15 months. Most of her leg muscle had deteriorated and she could not walk and barely crawl.
But Dottie is FIGHTER. She went through therapy and stayed with a foster mom on the weekends and a wonderful vet tech, Sammi, during the week for her treatments. Well, after so much time, Dottie wiggled her way into Sammi’s heart and since that time Dottie’s life has only gotten better.
Sammie decided that her life would not be the same without Dottie. So Dottie came to live with Sammi and her husband but to give Dottie the freedom she really needed, a wheelchair was needed. Sammi and her husband would do anything for Dottie and even though it was more than they could afford they got her one that was especially designed to support not only all four legs it also supports her neck.
Now they are hoping that kind people can be a part of the Freedom that Dottie has.
If you could help with the overwhelming cost of the wheelchair, all funds will be used to ensure that Dottie has the life and FREEDOM she deserves.
This will go to Dottie’s personal care not to a rescue.
Thank you for helping!! When you give, you will be sent updates on Dottie and pictures. She wants to keep all of her new friends that share her dream of FREEDOM!
