Help Leonardo Ramirez, Mailyn López, and Their Daughter Rebuild Their Lives
In just a few terrifying seconds, my brother, Leonardo Ramirez, his life partner, Mailyn López, and their young daughter lost everything.
Two devastating earthquakes struck La Guaira, Venezuela, causing widespread destruction. Their apartment building collapsed without warning, trapping all three of them beneath the rubble.
After a desperate rescue effort, Leonardo and their daughter were finally pulled out alive. We are beyond grateful that they survived. But for Marilyn, the outcome was heartbreaking.
She was trapped beneath a massive concrete beam for hours. Despite the heroic efforts of the medical team, the damage to her legs was so severe that doctors had no choice but to perform a double amputation in order to save her life.
The emotional trauma this family has endured is impossible to put into words. A loving mother now faces the unimaginable challenge of learning to live without both legs. A father must care for his family while coping with the loss of their home and the pain of seeing his partner suffer. Their daughter survived the collapse, but she experienced the terror of being trapped under the rubble with her father—a traumatic event that no child should ever have to endure.
Their apartment building was declared a total loss, and everything they owned disappeared beneath the debris. While material possessions can eventually be replaced, the road ahead will be long and incredibly difficult.
Marilyn will require extensive medical care, multiple follow-up treatments, physical rehabilitation, prosthetic limbs, medications, specialized equipment, and long-term psychological support. Their daughter may also need counseling to help her recover from the emotional trauma of this life-changing event. As the family begins to rebuild their lives from nothing, the financial burden is overwhelming.
Today, we humbly ask for your help.
Your donation—no matter how big or small—will directly support:
- Medical expenses and ongoing treatment for Marilyn.
- Physical rehabilitation and prosthetic limbs.
- Psychological counseling for Marilyn, Leonardo, and their daughter.
- Temporary housing and basic living expenses.
- Clothing, food, and essential household items.
- Helping this family rebuild their lives after losing everything.
If you are unable to donate, you can still make a tremendous difference by sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, coworkers, and social networks. Every share gives their story the chance to reach someone who may be able to help.
Our family believes that compassion has the power to restore hope, even after unimaginable loss. Your generosity will not only help meet their immediate needs—it will remind Leonardo, Marilyn, and their daughter that they are not facing this journey alone.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, your prayers, your support, and for standing with our family during the most difficult time of our lives.
Every act of generosity brings them one step closer to healing, hope, and a new beginning.
