For months, our family has been fighting to get back on our feet. Thanks to the kindness of so many people, we've made it farther than we ever thought possible.
We escaped an apartment with roaches and bedbugs. We moved our belongings into storage. We found temporary shelter while we searched for a permanent home. Every step has been a victory, even when it didn't feel like one.
Recently, we thought we had finally reached the finish line. We signed a lease, received the keys, and truly believed we had found our new home.
Unfortunately, it fell through.
It was heartbreaking, but we're not giving up.
The good news is that we've already found several other homes that would work for our family. The challenge now is coming up with the money to get into one.
Most of the homes we're looking at require around $3,000 to cover the security deposit, first month's rent, and the costs of moving. Once we're in, we can finally stop living from one crisis to the next and begin rebuilding our lives.
This isn't just about having a roof over our heads.
It's about giving my 74-year-old mother a safe, stable place to live.
It's about getting our belongings out of storage and into a home.
It's about creating the kind of stability we need to begin bringing our son back home.
For the first time in a long time, the obstacle isn't finding a place willing to rent to us.
It's simply getting through the front door.
If you're able to donate, every dollar brings us closer. If you can't, sharing our fundraiser with friends and family helps more than you know.
To everyone who has stood beside us through this journey, thank you. Your kindness has carried us through some of the darkest days of our lives, and we're determined to make sure your faith in us leads to a new beginning.
With gratitude,
— AdeleWell, life threw us another curveball.
The house we
thought we had found didn't work out.
We were close. Really
close. We offered to put money down to hold it for a few days while we
came up with the rest, but the landlord wanted to continue showing the
house. After everything else we've been through, it was another
disappointment we really didn't need.
But sitting around feeling
sorry for ourselves isn't going to put a roof over our heads.
So
we're changing plans.
Most of our belongings are now packed
safely into storage, and for the next month we're going to be living
in a motel while we concentrate our housing search in Ohio.
It's
not ideal. It's certainly not cheap. But it gives us something
incredibly important right now:
Time.
Time to
work.
Time to search.
Time to find a landlord willing to
work with us instead of jumping at the first place we can find because
we're desperate.
We currently have enough money to cover
approximately two to three weeks of motel living. During that time,
Milo and I plan to work our butts off doing DoorDash and Uber Eats
around Youngstown to earn as much of the remaining motel costs, food,
gas, and everyday expenses as we possibly can.
We're not sitting
around waiting for someone else to rescue us.
We're going to
work.
What we're asking for is some breathing room while we do
it.
Every donation means a little less of our DoorDash and Uber
income has to disappear immediately into the motel. That means more
can go toward gas, necessities, and—most importantly—saving toward the
deposit and first month's rent when we finally find the right
home.
Our goal over the next month is simple:
Keep a roof
over our heads. Work as much as we can. Find a permanent home in Ohio.
Save every dollar possible toward getting into it.
After months
of living out of boxes, storage units, basements, and temporary
situations, I can't begin to explain how badly we want to unpack our
belongings, put our furniture where it belongs, and
say:
"We're home."
And there is an even bigger
reason we refuse to give up.
We need a stable home so we can keep
fighting to bring Brandon back to his family.
That's the finish
line we're still chasing.
If you can donate $5, $10, $20 or
anything at all, it helps buy us time to work and search. If you can't
donate, PLEASE share this fundraiser. Sometimes one share reaching the
right person can accomplish more than you could ever
imagine.
We've been knocked down more times than I care to
count.
We're still here.
We're still working.
We're
still looking.
And we're not giving up until we have a home
again.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, encouraged
us, bought my software, or simply reminded us that people still
care.
You have helped us make it this far.
Now we're going
to work like hell to make it the rest of the way.
— Adele
