I was born and raised in Gaza Strip, Palestine. I finished high school "Tawjehi" with the excellence degree 96.2% from Arafat Gifted Secondary School in Gaza. Recently, I graduated from Jordan University of Science and Technology in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering field from the faculty of Science and Arts with a total GPA 4.05 out of 4.2. During my study, I studied many worthy courses, one of them is a research project. This course gave me the opportunity to work in a plant laboratory, in order to recognize the effect of specific chemical compounds at nemours plant types under salt stress. In order to investigate the ability of the plant to grow even in unfavorable conditions.

After graduation, I had the chance to be a volunteer in In vitro fertilization (IVF) center in Gaza. I gain a lot of experience and knowledge, from stimulating and collecting the ovums until embryo transfer. In addition to that, I learned to make preimplantation genetic diagnoses for embryos, which will help me in my coming science experiences. And from this experience, I will be able to help and transfer knowledge to others as well.

According to statistics provided by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the death rate due to lack of sufficient knowledge and appropriate cancer care is 14% in Palestine. I lost my cousin the last year, she was a mother to two beautiful toddlers, she was a loving and giving mother. Cancer invaded her body, and what makes it worse, is her inability to receive proper treatments, it’s unavailable in Gaza and she was forced to travel to Egypt with her son, and seeing her suffering made me decide to widen my knowledge of Cancer, especially access to care and delivery. My ambition aims to help cancer patients from vulnerable populations and improve their access care and delivery in Palestine, especially.

I made it this year to the University of Glasgow. I had received an unconditional offer to continue my master’s study in the Cancer Research and Precision Oncology program at Glasgow University in the United Kingdom. It has a global high ranking and for cancer as a scientific medical field, Glasgow has the largest cancer centre in Scotland (The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre).

There are many earnest various courses, starting with hallmarks of cancer, core skills in cancer research, cancer stem cells, cancer drug discovery, development and clinical trials, immunotherapy and precision oncology, cancer research distinguished seminar series and finishing with a research project. Until now I gained many skills in writing and reading scientific papers, how to discuss articles in groups, and how to make a critical review for a scientific article, so I aspire to work at a cancer research institute.
