We are Lynn Herkes, Christina Marz, and Heather Steyn, three horse lovers and businesswomen living in Cotacachi, Ecuador.

Lynn found buddy abandoned while walking her dogs and realized his leg was broken. She quickly told Heather and Christina who arranged to have a vet confirm the severity of the injury and contacted the owner. The owner bought the horse at auction intending to let it graze until he had enough horses to sell for meat at auction in Columbia.

We need a total of $500 to be able to buy back this poor, starving, broken Buddy and put him out of his misery by providing euthanasia and burial. Not one cent of this money this money is for anything but purchasing (for cost), euthanizing, and burying poor, young Buddy.

Buddy, this sweet, young horse has a broken right hind leg that cannot be fixed, and he cannot put weight on it. He’s in a tremendous amount of pain and is just skin and bones. He has a sweet, gentle personality but he must walk through the uneven pasture and across the street to get water from the little creek (when there is water). He can’t even lay down to sleep or rest, because he won’t be able to get back up.

We could have looked the other way, we could have kept to our own business, we could have not done anything. But no…we couldn’t. This poor, starving horse can’t even take one step without being in pain. To think that he will have to wait for MONTHS before he gets shoved into a crowded trailer with a bunch of other horses or other animals that have been deemed not worthy to live, to get hauled to Columbia and sold for meat after what will be an excruciating journey, we couldn’t do Nothing.

But we need your help. We have to pay the owner what he purchased for the horse so we are able to euthanize him. And we have to pay for the medications for the euthanasia. We also have to pay for the burial. It’s a lot for the three of us alone. But if all of us pitch in just a little…maybe $10 or $20, we can send this sweet, young horse, Buddy, to horse-heaven where he’ll be free of pain and suffering and run and play with his friends. 

If you could contribute, just $5, $10, or maybe $20, along with our contributions, we can relieve Buddy of his pain and suffering. If we do nothing, he will live in serious pain every moment of every day just trying to eat and drink for many, many months until he finally meets his death after a grueling and even more painful trailer ride (or truck ride) to a meat market in Columbia.
