Greetings from Baba Ifamuyiwa. Right now there is a travesty in our community in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The "For Sale" sign that sits right outside the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts. This place was built for the youth and the community to utilize for growth and empowerment in the face of adversity and poverty. Many have utilized the facility for their events, from artist showcases to African festivals. Tupac once said,
"I am the reflection of the community."
We plan to really utilize this place once given a chance to purchase this property. We will be opening doors to dance workshops, artist showcasing, open mics, martial arts and yoga, afterschool tutoring, conferences, a community garden and African festivals. There will also be a custom built studio for artist to lay down that hot 16 or soothing melodies. The center will benefit everyone in the community with Food & Clothing Drives for our homeless, community dinners to feed the hungry, a week dedicated to our senior citizens, for it is our elders whose path we will walk once their work is done. This center can be more than what it has been and with your donations, we will make that happen.
We are raising 1.6 million dollars for the purchase of not only the building, but the LAND! Along with the beginning maintenance, utilities, and repairs needed to get this movement going. The Eastside of Atlanta needs a place of refuge for our youth and for our people. This property will be treated with the high value it holds. This is our time to get together as a community and hold onto something that represents us. We can donate as an individual, as a neighborhood, or as an organization, BUT we cannot let this fall through!
I leave you with another quote from Tupac Amaru Shakur who once said,
“I want to grow. I want to be better. You grow. We ALL grow. We're made to grow. You either evolve, or disappear."
We must hold onto this legacy, and not let it disappear. We must stand on the shoulders of this brother and build an even greater dream, leaving the path better than we found it for the sake of our youth, our community, and our people.
