Who we are

Hi! We're a group of people passionate about homeless animals. In 2008 four of us met and decided that it just couldn't go on as it had been. That was the day our non-profit organization 'New Ark' began.

Note: We live in Russia. In our country there's no law protecting animals. If anything is done to save them, it is done by volunteers. In our town, Obninsk, there's no shelter. We've managed to get a piece of land to build one, but we have no funds to do it.

What we do

We connect people who are mad about animals as much as we are.

We save abandoned and homeless cats and dogs. And even save some from their owners. Knocked down by cars, thrown out of windows, fallen down from roofs, left alone in woods, tied near rubbish heaps, kept in boxes 1х1 metre and not fed for weeks... Those are who we care about. 

We're working on a program of humane regulation of stray animals quantity.

We're giving information. We do our best to popularize sterilization of domestic and street animals to keep their population under control and to prevent cruelty against unnessesary offspring. 

By now more than 1500 animals have been treated, sterilized, vaccinated and found new families.

How we do it

First we had a corner on an institute's estate but we were asked to quit it. Since 2013 we rent new territory. And we can be asked to clear it out any day. At the moment it is contaminated and we can't take unvaccinated kittens or puppies. And we're full.

The city administration gave us a bare piece of land out of town. It has nothing on it. We are not backed up by authorities. Everything we do is done with a little help from our friends and volunteers.

What we want

We want to build a home for cats and dogs. A real shelter on our own territory with an animal boarding house. We want to treat and sterilize more animals than we do now. We really do want to find homes and families for as many of them as possible. We think it's important to make our city animal-friendly and educated.

First we need to hire heavy machinery for ground levelling and to put up a fence. We need to build or buy accomodation units for volunteers who come to help, for cats and for utilities. Dogs need enclosures. And all of them and us need electricity and water.


Why You?

In Russian languge there's a saying, 'Everyone gives a thread - and a naked one gets a shirt'. It means the same as the English 'Many a little makes a mickle'. All we have is HOPE, PASSION - and YOU, people who do care about animals' destiny. There is no other way our dream may come true.
