Grace and Robert were born on May 28, 2014. Heart murmurs were detected in both babies, but while Robert's disappeared shortly after birth, Grace's murmur got louder. An echocardiogram two days after birth revealed a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot, a rare condition that occurs in only 5 out of every 10,000 babies. It involves four problems with the heart: a hole between the lower chambers of the heart, an obstruction from the heart to the lungs, the aorta lies over the hole in the lower chambers, and the muscle surrounding the lower right heart chamber becomes overly thickened. The result is that oxygen-poor blood is pumped to the body through the hole in the heart instead of being pumped to the lungs. Although Grace has done extremely well and has shown NO signs of this slowing her down, surgical correction is a necessity. Open heart surgery is scheduled for October 10th at Egleston Hospital in Atlanta and I know that her mommy and daddy would appreciate your prayers and support! Several friends and family members have also expressed an interest in making a donation to help with travel expenses, as well as medical expenses not covered by insurance. This site will allow friends and family in both Canada and the U.S. to donate. Thank you so much!
