A House for Jackie & Yvonne Vautour!
-----
Jackie Vautour and Yvonne are an Acadian-Métis couple who fought
tirelessly to keep the right to live on the land of their ancestors in
Kouchibouguac. The Vautour family was one family amongst 260 who were
expropriated by the federal government in 1976 to build the
Kouchibougouac National Park. The couple refused the humiliation and
returned to live on their land, against the orders of the government
in 1978.
Today, after having struggled with enourmous legal fees incurred
in the last 38 years to defend their rights, they are still living in
poverty in a small trailer that is falling apart, with no running
water or electricity.
Now, young people, seniors, Métis, Aboriginal and Acadians come
together to give themselves a collective victory. How ? By helping the
Vautour couple spend their last days in dignity in a house that has
the merit of being called a home.
By building a house for the Vautour family, this will be the
first real home of an expropriated family to be built in Kouchibouguac
for over 25 years. We hope it will be a symbol that will encourage
other expropriated families to take action and take what is rightfully theirs.
All their life, Jackie and Yvonne fought for their rights, but
also the rights of Métis and Acadians: now it's our duty to give
back and help!

notre tour!
