On the 28th September 2014, I will run the Berlin marathon - one year since my Dad passed away. The bottle got him, as it did with my Grandfather a decade and a half before.

I am running for my Dad, Grandfather and for all of those who know about the ills of alcoholism through the briliant London-based charity, Alcohol Concern. The more smiles, pennies, pounds, notes, muscial suggestions, social shares or running outfits for the race the better (That last one is a challenge for you all: send it, I'll wear it...).

With only a couple of days to the run, I'm just over halfway to raising my 2,000 squid target. I'll be circling high above the moon if you could help me in any way you can on my achy 26.2 mile quest.

I feel that alcoholism cannot be fairly quantified into statistics or units. Our attitudes to this most callous and self-destructive disease should adopt a wider social perspective that brings the long term effects of drinking to further light.

I heard someone mutter they heard somewhere that someone may have said something along the lines of: some can run 20 miles, few can run 26 miles and the insane run 26.2 miles - so, lovely people, feel free to slide your little hand into your nice, new summer trouser pocket and help me get insane. For charity.

Merci, danke, gracias, dziękuję, 感謝, danke je, tak, cheers and thank you to my friends and families around the world. You're the best.

xx
