My blessed cat, Tigger, whom I adopted two weeks ago from the Seattle Humane Society following the death of my elderly cat Violin, needs your help. He needs emergency surgery and we can't afford it.

Tigger had his "free" vet check yesterday, and the vet thinks he has internal injuries from a possible car accident during his time as a stray. His x-rays showed heavy congestion causing rapid, shallow breathing, and a diaphramal hernia. The vet called him "critical" and said emergency surgery was needed but he might not survive the surgery, which would cost $2,000 we don't have. He said our other option was to return him to the shelter.

I called the shelter and found out I would have to surrender Tigger for them to treat him, and there's no guarantee they would do the operation. If they decide the risk is too great, they'll euthanize him. Even if he survives and recovers, we could not re-adopt him. The shelter, of course, is a stressful environment full of barking dogs, metal cages and general chaos.

The alternative is to keep him with us until he dies naturally, or starts suffering, in which case we would have him euthanized at home, in my arms, as Violin was. He is supremely happy here, where there are no dogs, children or other cats to stress him out. We love him and pet him; he purrs, eats and drinks, gets healthy treats and sleeps peacefully. Tigger has never been this happy in his short life. He has gained weight and loves the view from our windows. He watches the birds and squirrels with interest, and seems to like the soft New Age music we play while Jesse works.

Your donation will help Tigger get the surgery he needs, and recuperate in a quiet home surrounded by peace and love. He's a sweet, affectionate boy who deserves a chance for a happy life.
