Tracey Andrews hasn't added a story.
Saundra was rescued with her 2 sisters in April 2013 by Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue. They promptly received needed medical updates and vaccines and were placed in a loving foster home for quarantine. Many young pups pulled from rural areas can be exposed to viral and bacterial contagions that lie dormant in their systems for several days, quarantine is one safegaurd against the spread of such disease as Parvo and Campilobacter in a kennel environment. Saundra was the first to show signs of illness, loss of appetite, lethargy followed by diarrea and vomiting. She was placed on antibiotics and eventually fluids , but failed to respond, her sisters followed with signs of illness as well ,but were quick to respond to treatment. Saundra recieved around the clock care for the next 10 days before showing any improvement. She began to eat and drink on her own and I took her for short outings in the warm spring sunshine. The second day out she was relluctant to walk with me , and with in the next 24 hours she was completely lame.
We made the heart wrenching decision to euthanize the sweet girl the next day but our Veterinarian saw hope in her and wanted to wait . I brought Saundra home with me and set up the house for her care. She had no sensation in her legs at all , I would have to help her to eat, drink and relieve herself. We settled into a routine over the coming weeks and tried steroids and continued antibiotics , as well as massage and some basic physical therapy.Saundra began to show some small movements in her toes but progress was slow .
With the support of Louie's Legacy , I made the decision to pursue alternative veterinary care and physical therapy for Saundra. She recieves Chinese herbs, Accupunture, Physical Therapy and Hydrotherapy, she is showing great sings of improvement .
Saundra has been with me for nearly 6 months now , and its no surprise to anyone that I am adopting her. Soon she will be officially my girl , and this will make room for Louie's Legacy to raise funds to help another special needs pup . Much of her care has been generously donated or discounted because she was part of a rescue organization, and while we are blessed to have such wonderful supporters its time for me to take on the financial oblgations of Saundras care.
Thank you to everyone who has been so kind to us, I look forward to sharing some exciting and heart warming updates with you.
